It is not easy to leave a loved one behind. Imagine being a wife of someone who works overseas. She and the kids have come to love and dread the sight of the airport. The very place that she goes to welcome her husband home is the same place she let him go to pursue his goal of earning a living and giving the kids a good future. It is always about the kids – they are the heart and soul of the family, the glue that keeps a family together. And there are many families out there who is on the same predicament as us.
Take the case of military families. Unlike overseas workers, these families have a lot more to endure and sacrifice, indeed a whole lot more. These men and women in uniform leave their families behind all for the sake of their country. They leave behind babies only to return and see them as toddlers. They leave behind girlfriends/boyfriends/partners/wives/husbands and they all have stories to tell – some good and at other times bad. They leave behind parents/brothers/sisters only to return and see them much older than they were when they left them. So you see, there is way too much happening in a span of 7 , 9, 10 or 12 months. Things will change or be unchanged. But one thing is certain for those who leave – loved ones will yearn for them to come back safe.
These clips of homecoming and family reunions is a sight to behold. It will give you goose bumps, make your heart ache, leave a lump in your throat and tears in your eyes, in a good way. The joy that this homecoming gives to all the people involved is priceless. We may not be there when it happens but we can feel their emotions by watching the video clips. And we celebrate with them as they jump for joy! We feel a surge of joy for them as they hug each other and we cry with them as they embrace knowing that they waited for this moment for quite a long time.
Family bonding and togetherness is immeasurable. There may be obstacles that keep them apart from a time but God is always present and He knows everything. In His own time there will be more precious homecoming videos such as these. And again together with tears in our eyes, we will have that big smile on our faces – to welcome them home.
