It is said that grandparents love their grandchildren more than they love their own kids. And this must be true. They spoil them, dote on them, more tolerable to them – they shower them with love 24/7, much more than they did with their kids. And it is more so when they are deemed “special”. They have “special” needs to be met, they are treated with more tender, loving care. And when they do something that is beyond what is expected of them – it is the sweetest thing.
Little baby Aria was born deaf. Pamela, her grandma, has the same condition. With this, Grandma Pamela became devoted to her 9-week old grandchild and was very excited to teach her sign language. It was to be their common bond; the beginning of a more lively and lovely “conversation” between them. The earlier a young one learns sign language, the better their bond will be.
And so it was, one fine day when little Aria was lying on Grandma Pamela’s lap, gazing into her eyes that the latter decided to teach her to “speak” through sign language. And what better word to teach Aria but “Grandma”. And the way she intently “listens” as Grandma taught her to sign was amazing. How could a 9-week old baby learn sign language so early!? Maybe she too is excited to “talk” with Grandma!
Shari Joy McMahon, Aria’s mom just had to record this moment with her camera! After all, not all babies as young as hers would pay attention to instructions for sign language. And her little one did! The video showed just how proud Grandma is of her grandchild. And truly a line from the song, ‘if there are no words, no way to speak, I would still hear you’, rings true.
