Mark Villager is a professional dancer with his own YouTube page called ‘Kinjaz Dojo’. Dancing is his passion and he always think of more creative and unusual ways to exhibit such talent. After all, it is with unique, one-of-a-kind videos that he gets views and likes and shares from his page.
In 2012, a South Korean musician who called himself Psy hit the music jackpot with the song Gangnam Style. Wikepdia disclosed that “On December 21, 2012, “Gangnam Style” became the first YouTube video to reach one billion views. The song’s music video has been viewed over 2.8 billion times on YouTube, and has been YouTube’s most watched video since November 24, 2012″. And Mark Villager contemplated on making a music video of his own utilizing the hit song.
What set Mark’s video from the rest of the Gangnam stye-inspired ones is not the dance moves but the fact that he decided to include his 60-year old Mom. This was made even more special by the fact that his Mom is deaf and that it was the first time Mark taught her to dance. Mother Villager cannot hear a single note. She sensed the music through the air and the floor from the actual sound waves created when the music is played. And the result was heartwarming and electrifying.
As we watched the video, the deep bond between mother and son was conveyed by their synchronized moves. The way they raised their arms, change positions, gesture to each other or shimmy their hips or execute a turn as they groove to the music – it was priceless. It is hard not to get emotional considering Mom’s state. And it showed a son’s dedication to his craft and a mother’s determination to rise above her inadequacy. It is love at it’s selfless form.
